About the Gray Center

The Gray Center For Social Learning and Understanding is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and those who work alongside them to improve mutual understanding. We approach the social impairment in ASD as a shared impairment. We work to improve social understanding on both sides of the social equation, helping both persons with ASD and those who interact with them to be able to communicate more effectively.

Social Understanding approaches assume that to teach “appropriate social responses” to a student with ASD could hold little meaning if others do not understand the student’s perspective, or the student does not understand what is occurring around him, and why.

The first step to teaching social skills is to ensure, beyond all assumptions, that communication between typical people and people with ASD is clear and meaningful, and that all people involved have accurate and specific social information.

Although we are a relatively new organization, we are continuing to grow and change so that we can be a helpful resource to parents, professionals, and those with ASD. We are especially excited about the new learning and support opportunities that we are able to offer. We have a variety of programs and resources available to promote social understanding, and to provide information and support to those who need it.

We recognize that dedicated parents, family members, school staff, physicians, employers, and others are working around the world to promote social understanding. If there is a person in your life who has been a source of information, support, or encouragement, please take a moment to publicly acknowledge that person on our site using the link provided.

Our Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers include professionals, parents and other individuals interested in autism spectrum disorders.

Donations to The Gray Center are tax-deductible, and will help to provide information and support to benefit those with autism spectrum disorders. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, you can mail it to us, or send it to us safely and securely using the link on this site.

We thank you for your support!
